Genji Kyoto - Refreshing the looks of a Japanese hotel

Genji Kyoto is a boutique hotel in central Kyoto offering a serene mix of traditional Japanese design and modern amenities. Their site was underperforming with high bounce rates and weak engagement. The brand also felt like it could be fresher and more aligned with its values of craftsmanship, nature, and heritage.
Strategy
We aimed to amplify Genji Kyoto’s traditional atmosphere while bringing freshness. We chose new typefaces and colours that invoke both heritage and renewal. The goal was a visual refresh that reflects their roots in Japanese culture but feels contemporary.
Design
We redesigned the home page and stay pages. We updated colours and typography to better express their core values. The brand refresh ensures all design elements feel coherent and evocative of their sense of place.
